In 51 days, my whole world changed
I am 81 years old and up till now I have been very active and healthy.
I took no medicine and did just about anything I wanted to. I still drove my truck to the store.
Then my breathing began to give me trouble. It got so bad I went and had an x-ray taken and found I had fluid built up on my lung. The hospital drew the fluid off my lung and sent me to a heart doctor.
I have congestive heart failure that caused the fluid build up.
I have kidney failure. My doctor has installed port-a-caths in my chest and my arm, for dialysis. I have to go (3) times a week now just to stay alive.
I am on oxygen now, also. I have portable oxygen tanks so when I go to dialysis I can take it with me but I am there for 3 1/2 hrs and a tank last 2 1/2 hrs so I have to take 2 with me just so I will know I can breath on the way home.
I have medicare part A and part B, but not part D. I didn't take any medicine so I didn't see the need for it. Now my life revolves around 4 pills a day and 2 breathing treatments daily plus oxygen.
I was in the hospital the last 24 days of December of the enrollment dates for part D this year.
Before I didn't need part D…I was never sick. Then I missed the cut off date because I was sick.
Boy my life has changed and it's only been 51 days since I was taking care of myself. Just goes to show…you just never know!
